Top 5 Medical Reality Show Ideas
With reality TV dominating the ratings, we at StopPagingMe.com have decided to jump on that bandwagon. We have just completed filming pilot episodes for several different medical-based reality shows. Although you might have seen such tame shows as Trauma: Life in the ER and Resident Life, you’ve never seen anything like this. Without further ado…
1. The Reading Room – This one may have succeeded had the radiology residents not completely alienated everyone, from the other doctors to the production crew. The excitement came to a head when they had to rule out PE, small bowel obstruction, and stroke - all within 9 hours! The resident barely had time to put in her James Taylor CD and eat the dinner she brought from home. Clinical correlation is, of course, recommended.
2. Cribs on-call – Check out the country’s most pimped-out call rooms.
3. Intern Mole - Who’s sabotaging the Red team? 3 ambulettes cancelled and prescriptions made out to the wrong patient? How can the patient spike on the day of discharge? “What do you mean he’s not NPO?” “Who the hell gave lactulose?” Intern Mole did. But who is it?
4. Trading Specialties - Based on the hit design show Trading Spaces, this reality series has doctors switch specialties for a day. Comedy ensues when the ophthalmologist must perform a rectal exam.
5. Fear Factor: Interns vs Residents – How far are some housestaff willing to go for $50,000? What risks are they willing to take? Will anyone eat the unidentifiable leftover Indian food ordered by the night float team? And who will risk their life by attempting to finish off the box of chocolates at the nurse’s station?
Other show ideas that just missed the cut:
Anesthesia: Behind the Curtain – Watch as the anesthesiologist reads an entire novel over the course of a single fem-pop bypass.
Celebrity Turn and Cough – See celebrities get checked for hernias. The pilot features Tommy Lee and Richard Simmons.
True Hollywood Story: Dr. Zizmor – The trials and tribulations of New York’s most infamous dermatologist.
